Cub'X-Window demo version 4.4 presents 2 packages :
- CubXWindowDemo.pkg is the package to use if you want to install the demo version on NeXT hardware.
- CubXWindowDemoIntel.pkg is the package you must use if you want to install the demo version on Intel based platforms.
Cub'X-Window DEMO VERSION QUITS AFTER HAVING PERFORMED A SPECIFIC NUMBER OF EVENTS.
Cub'X-Window Demo Version includes a limited number of user applications and fonts, but presents all functionalities and X display options you can access in Cub'X-Window.
Although Cub'x-Window Demo Version does not include the User Guide, all Cub'X-Window functionalities are explained in the On Line Help.

Cub'X-Window Demo version installation process goes through 3 stages, to be followed specifically from stage 1 to stage 3.
Stage 1 Installing the CubXWindowDemo or CubXWindowDemoIntel package
Stage 2 Building the X Window System
Stage 3 Installing the X default user environment
Cub'X-Window Demo version is provided in NeXT package format, and is installed with NeXT Installer application. To know more about NeXT Installer, please read in NeXT User's Reference chapter "Managing Installer Packages : Installer".
Cub'X-Window Demo version 4.4 runs on NEXTSTEP v3.x.
2. Check if another X Window System is already installed on the computer.
If another X server is already installed on the computer, Cub'X-Window will refuse to be installed. Since all X servers use files with the same name, installing 2 X
servers on the same computer could lead indeed to malfunctions in both X servers. We recommend that you de-install the other X Server before installing Cub'X-Widow.
If you wish to run 2 X servers simultaneously, Cub'X-Window provides this option.
After installing the package, all files needed for X are located in CubXWindowInstaller.app program. For X to run properly, symbolic links must be created from these files to specific locations, and additional system configuration files are required.
The build process configures the proper file environment.
1. Log in as root to have superuser status.
2. Double click on CubXWindowInstaller.app icon in the installation folder.
Cub'X-Window Installer appears.
3. Click on Build in the Installer window.
4. Once the building process is completed, save and quit all other applications running on the computer and reboot the computer.
NOTE : If you are not superuser, a message similar to the following appears :
You must have superuser status to run this application. Please enter root password.
Enter the root password in the corresponding text field, and click on Login. You can then go back to step 2 of the building process. If the password you entered is wrong, the panel will keep appearing.
IMPORTANT :If you move Cub'X-Window programs (CubXWindow.app and CubXWindowInstaller.app) to another location, you need to unbuild Cub'X-Window before moving the programs, and rebuild Cub'X-Window after having moved the programs.
When building the X Window System, the installation process copies a default environment into /usr/template/user. New users created on this computer will automatically inherit the default X environment.
The following operation duplicates this X default environment into the user directory.
1. Log in as yourself.
2. Launch Terminal.app located in /NextApps.
3. In the Terminal window, type : /usr/bin/X11/installX
4. At the prompt : overwrite .cshrc?
If you or your system administrator never modified the .cshrc file in your home
directory, you can overwrite the .cshrc file.
Type "y" to answer yes: overwrite .cshrc? y
If the .cshrc file has been modified, please contact your system administrator, or
follow the instructions below in order not to overwrite your own version of .cshrc
file :
1. Open your .cshrc file.
2. Add /usr/bin/X11 in your PATH environment variable, by typing the following line in your .cshrc file :
set path=( $path /usr/bin/X11)
3. Set the variable DISPLAY to unix:0 and export it if necessary.
Type the following line in your .cshrc file :
setenv DISPLAY unix:0
4. Save the modified .cshrc file.
NOTE : When overwriting the .cshrc file, the installation process makes a copy of the previous version of .cshrc before replacing it by the Cub'X-Window version. This backup copy is named.cshrc.old, and is located in usr/template/user.
The unbuild process restores the system to its initial state. If you remove Cub'X-Window files without previously unbuilding the X Window System, stray symbolic links will remain on your hard disk.
1. Log in as root to have superuser status.
2. Double-click on CubXWindowInstaller.app. Cub'X-Window Installer window appears.
3. Click on Unbuild in the Installer window.
4. Close Cub'X-Window Installer when the unbuild process is completed.
Once the de-installation process is completed, CubXWindow.app and CubXWindowInstaller.app which remain in the installation folder are empty folders. You can then destroy these empty folders.
1. Log in as root to have superuser status.
2. Select CubXWindow.app and CubXWindowInstaller.app located in the installation folder.
3. Choose Destroy in the file menu of the Workspace manager.
